Thank you for posting this because the idea that Kakashi is “forced” into this rivalry is wrong. If Kakashi doesn’t wanna do something, he doesn’t! He loves Gai and his friendship with him. He cherishes and respects him as a person, a friend and a rival!
Tumblr media
Friendly reminder that when Gai dances, Kakashi dances.
This friendship/rivalry is 100% equal and while Kakashi isn’t as openly enthusiastic as Gai he is still 100% participating enthusiastically in the way that he shows enthusiasm.

oooh how would enemies to lovers with kakashi go? like after seeing each other's worst they fell in love . Like if y/n was able to move on quickly after kakashi was cold i think he'd be a little insulted and offended lul
Tumblr media
slowly.  oh. so. very. slowly.
Trust is a Must™ for kakashi hatake in any relationship, especially a romantic one
he’s lost so many important people that opening up to a new one is incredibly difficult
and because he’s going to give 210% to this once he’s committed, he wants to make sure he isn’t giving his affections away frivolously
especially to someone he might consider an “enemy”
tbh, that might be an insurmountable distinction
if you’ve done something actually legitimately terrible (killing the innocent, betraying your comrades, abandoning civilians in need), i don’t think there’s much you could do to change his mind
he’d be more likely to hunt you down than date you
but if you’re just not someone he’s ever really interacted with; maybe someone who he just views as a vaguely annoying or disrepectful, there’s a chance
but you’re gonna have to work for it
kakashi is not the sort of man who forgives easily without cause
if you hurt him or betray him (or worse, hurt or betray one of his friends), it’s going to be almost impossible to earn that trust again
an uphill battle both ways, for sure
but if part of the problem is that you approached kakashi before he was ready? if he was cold to you because he was emotionally unprepared to face the prospect of... affection?
then slowly, he’d be willing to reach back out
be careful, though, because if you’ve already moved on...
kakashi will turn away and never look back
not because he’s jealous or angry or disappointed
but because if he sees you happy, he isn’t going to see any reason why he should try to intervene
it’s not his place
so if you were hoping to spur him forward by dating someone else, you’ll have to backpeddle that quickly
show him he’s the only person you want
(let’s face it, the man essentially needs to be bonked on the head with an encylopedia to realize he is worthy of love so don’t be obtuse or he will miss it)
the best way to go from kakashi’s enemy to his lover?
be honest
be truthful
be open
show him you are a good person, someone he can trust
shower his ninken with treats when he summons them, show interest in his students and his competitions with gai
if you hurt someone he cares about, whether through thoughtlessness or enmity, you’ll need to go several extra kilometers to show him that isn’t who you are
apologize, make amends
show him that isn’t who you are anymore
because for kakashi hatake to love someone, the most important thing he needs to know is that he can count on them to protect the people he loves in whatever way they can
to protect the people they love any way they can (and, yeah, that includes kakashi but don’t bother saying it because it will just make him uncomfortable and mutter about how it’s his job to protect you and not the other way around)
it’s okay, though
because if you’ve earned his trust this much?  he knows you’ll be there for him if he ever needs you

Tumblr media
hehehehe!!!!
Tumblr media
answers under the cut!
favorite thing about them —there's a lot to love abt kakashi if i'm gonna be honest, but the biggest thing for me is that he DOES care for these kids immensely. he drops by naruto's apartment to give him vegetables, he constantly puts himself in danger to protect the kids, on a couple of occasions he straight up ignores + disrespects the hokage just to listen to naruto ramble about ramen. similarly with yamato—even when sai joins the team, kakashi does make a point of telling sai he's a member of the team, not just Yamato's responsibility, but Kakashi's too...like. he's not great with kids at all. but my god does he try!
least favorite thing about them — 100% the convo with sasuke before sasuke booked it. he fucked that up so royally that i just know the rest of his life he's going to be laying awake in his bed thinking "why did i say that? why did i say any of that? why was my first instinct in that situation to belittle sasuke? Who let me be in charge of children. why did i let myself be put in charge of children." like. it makes sense for him, he really has no children skills, but also im not going to lie thinking about that scene makes me insane. i want to attack kakashi. good god dude, you could've called gai in!! or tenzō!!! why did you say there was nobody in your life who mattered to you. why did you say that to this kid, who like it or not, looks up to you both as a teacher and as the only person left with any attatchment to the uchiha clan + the sharingan, who isn't his murderous brother. i genuinely have to think that he forgot that kids want to be understood, and was just straight up dealing with sasuke as he might a rogue soldier. i'm so. ugh. kakashi... favorite line — "In the Ninja World, those who break the rules are scum, that's true...but those who abandon their friends are worse than scum." its really good for not only understanding kakashi but also the central theme of naruto, but mostly i picked it as my favorite because i remind kate of this when we're playing fortnite + laugh like a hyena afterward. brOTP —okay so. Gai is canonically Kakashi's best friend and i love that so much and respect that and as far as Kakashi is concerned, that is the absolute brotp. If you like Kakashi I think you have to respect this immensely. Gai is without a doubt the most important relationship that Kakashi has!!! they better each other in all ways and they have an undying and complicated friendship built up over decades with trust and dedication.
but also.
this is transparently a Yamato-centric blog, and Kakashi is 100% Yamato's favorite person, so Yamato and Kakashi's friendship is the most important to me personally, even if Yamato is not Kakashi's best friend.
OTP —i'm not a huge ship person, but if i had to pick one it would be kakayamagai nOTP —ehhh?? i'm not a huge ship person. kakaobi puts me on edge a bit i guess? really not my thing. random headcanon — i think his grandmother on sakumo's side was an inuzuka. because of this, after sakumo died, a handful of the inuzuka clan were very adamant that kakashi, by right, should belong to the inuzuka clan as next of kin. kakashi, five years old and freshly traumatized, now the only surviving member of the hatake clan AND incredibly wary of bonds and friendships because he's seen whats happened to sakumo, contested this. they actually got in a legal dispute in front of the hokage. fucking five year old kakashi dully but determinedly saying he's Not going to be an inuzuka, and the inuzuka clan (represented by a headstrong teenage tsume) going "what's is wrong with this ungrateful kid! not every orphan gets this kind of opportunity!" eventually hiruzen sided with kakashi, because hiruzen is morally bankrupt and doesn't care if children raise themselves. once kakashi becomes the 6th hokage, he's subject to occasional visits from tsume where she comes to bully him about visiting the inuzuka compound (under threat of inuzuka clan rebellion without. Peace Talks. over dumplings that kiba's been trying to perfect), and telling him how nice it is to have an inuzuka beneath the hat, and he's just like. ma'am...please...have mercy...
unpopular opinion — i think he would look soooo bad in a suit. he would not look suave or sexy. he could make like the fanciest most well made three piece suit look like a tracksuit he pulled out of the laundry before it went thru the wash. and like. he would! he would delight in that! if you forced this man into a suit, he would purchase one at least two sizes too large for him and hed slump around in it.
he has the hair of a half dried paintbrush, the posture of a puppet with its strings cut, and the general vibe of a dog with a tail between its legs.
not to say that can't be attractive to u if ur into that. its just. u know. he's not going to be james bond if you put him in a suit, u feel me?
he's going to look like a temp who is going to get let go from his accounting firm for making all the cups of coffee from the same keurig pod not realizing that after the first one its just vaguely coffee flavored water, and also for not knowing how to save a file. He probably would know how to save a file but just pretended he didn't to get on somebody's nerves
song i associate with them — Why Can't This Be Easy by Red Vox
So tell me, tell me Why can't this be easy? I've heard it once I've heard it all before So settle down Relax yourself, completely You can't get down if you're always in control
Here out so far It's a long way Long way back I've never been so far before
favorite picture of them
Tumblr media
this one legitimately makes me rlly happy bc like. the original context was funny enough, but since trans naruto tumblr has had fun with it in regard to passing, its SO funny to me!

Reading your analysis has ruined me because now I see Naruto and Sasuke everywhere. Hinata and Kageyama from Haikyuu(their ship name is actually kagehina too wtf)? just naruto and sasuke minus the gay. The influence of Naruto is incredible team 7 trio seems to be copied everywhere in anime? Nagisa, Karma, Kayano. Armin, Eren, Mikasa. Big 3 in MHA. Yuji, Megumi, Nobara. Norman, Emma, Ray. It's the twogirlsandaguy tvtrope. Is starwars1977 the OG inspiration?American influence in anime interests me
Hi.
I have seen/read SNK and seen the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen anime. And yes, the trope of two boys plus one girl, does stand out noticeably. However, the dynamics are completely different. Where in JJK, the team dynamic among Nobara, Yuji and Megumi (even if the character specification is one skilled introvert, one strong, loud mouth aka protagonist, and one aggressive dreamer) is much more balanced, and not cringe inducing. Unlike Team seven.
JJK's team comes off as more organic and their action reaction to each other is much healthier and contributory to battles in a fair manner. It's team seven but much better. Also, Nobara is exponentially better than Sakura as a stand alone character. She is skillful, considerate even if a little violent and has a spine. She is also not a simpering fangirl, unlike Sakura, and this helps contribute to a healthier team dynamic when seen opposite team seven. Gege is clearly influenced by Naruto, but he definitely made it better, in terms of give and take of a group dynamic.
SNK is different, even if it has the same team trope. SNK is edgier. Mikasa is a very different character as compared to Sakura. Her goals and motivations do revolve around Eren, but it comes from a much deeply seated emotion, and isn't surface level, as opposed to Sakura. She is also selfless and skilled in her own right. She has a clear understanding of the world she lives in, and her backstory is set up to be tragic, which moulds her character and accordingly, informs her bond with Eren. There's substance there, unlike SS. Armin and Eren are also quite different from Sasuke and Naruto as characters and their mutual dynamic is also quite different.
So yes, similar tropes are seen in other animes, from what I have noticed. But it's only surface level. They are also devoid of homosexual/homoerotic subtext and text, unlike in case of Sasuke and Naruto.
Team seven was consistently about Sasuke and Naruto, the rest were just supporting characters. Kishi had to give them a smokescreen for his gay love story, and hence he wrote Sakura as largely irrelevant but acting as kind of a convenient bridge between Naruto and Sasuke, in order to establish their bond to the audience without making it explicit. At the end of the day, Kakashi and Sakura didn't matter to Sasuke. He left the village and only stopped to fight with Naruto in part one, because it was the only bond that mattered to him. He dismissed them without difficulty in the war arc and kage arc, completely refusing to acknowledge their importance or even existence, despite Naruto's urges even during the war.
The only person that mattered to Sasuke in team seven was Naruto, team seven was not even the starting off point. He had already noticed Naruto much before they graduated, and defended him from Sakura's half witted mockery without even having worked as a team.
So I understand why audience would notice similar patterns in other media in this genre, but it's merely superficial in principle. Naruto is a story of love. The love between Sasuke and Naruto. That's why they are different from the rest.

Can I request a Kakashi x reader where Kakashi and the reader have a unspoken thing between them, like they both know how they feel about each other even through when going through different relationships but it’s just not something they’ve acted on because of ✨ninja life✨ and ✨trauma✨then one of the readers relationships starts moving too fast so kakashi finally confesses. I love your writing btw sorry I went off on a ramble it’s like 4am and I’ve had a lot of energy drinks
A/N: Thank you so much honey! I had a kakashi kick so i decided to write this, Hope you enjoy! Please show it love and I’ll be more than willing to write a second part!
Tumblr media
“I had a fun time too.” You lied straight through your teeth, with a smile on your face to make your statement look more convincing.
You had just returned from your sixth date with Genma, and you were the most cruel human possible for leading him on like this. Given, he was a player back in the academy and broke many hearts but he had now redeemed himself and parted with the playboy ways. Your intuition told you he was genuinely falling for you but you couldn’t reciprocate, constantly giving yourself the excuse of just one more date.
But how to give your heart to him when it already belonged to another?
He pecked your lips lightly and gazed into your eyes, then stepped back and continued, “So I was wondering if you would come back to my place for dinner next Friday?
He looked like a golden retriever yearning for its favourite toy, you didn’t know how to say no to him.
Of course, you weren’t dumb. You knew what he was hinting at. The next level of your relationship was physical intimacy. You were sure this was the longest Genma might have dated someone without indulging in uhh, lovemaking.
You knew he was trying to be patient with you, because you had never gone that far with any of
your previous relationships, third base was foreign territory to you. You knew this was a well known fact among your colleagues but you were over the initial embarrassment now.
But the question was,
Were you ready for that?
He was one of the most sought after bachelors in Konoha, alongside Izumo, Kotetsu, Kakashi-
Kakashi of course.
Kakashi was coolness personified and you were not even kidding. Almost every one wanted to either be him or be with him. Both applied to all possible genders. Even as a kid, he was a once in a millennium prodigy, the pride of ANBU during his youth, famous in every Ninja village across the world. He was a celebrity for goodness sake! He had his own horde of fangirls and fanboys alike. Kakashi had single digit failed missions in an entire record of few hundreds at least. It was almost an insult to give that skilled shinobi a mission below A rank. You both started alongside ay the academy and you were nowhere near his match. Both as an opponent and a partner. That too in both senses, as a team as well as a couple.
You were sure you were one of the many girls pining after him. Sometimes, you gave yourself false hope that even though you weren’t in the same circle at academy, he might have noticed you, crushed on you, felt the same adoration for you.
But who were you kidding? With a exquisite range of beauties lining up at his doorstep to create his progeny, where would you even stand?
“(Y/N) babe? You alright?” Genma asked snapping you out of your thoughts and you almost forgot he was standing in front of you, actually paying you some of his wanted attention and your younger self might have almost felt giddy about it, but you felt nothing but horrible. Horrible because you couldn’t return the enthusiasm and love Genma was offering to you with a pure heart. Horrible because you couldn’t find it in yourself to be brave enough and confess to someone you wanted to be with so much. Horrible because you knew, somewhere deep inside, that your favourite fantasies of love would never come true. But Genma didn’t deserve this either, he didn’t deserve to be treated this way, and the sooner you told him that, the more heartbreak you would be saving both of you from.
“Genma I have mission on Thursday, which might extend up to weeks. I’m sorry-” That was the truth. It might buy you some time as well to figure out what to say to him.
“Hey, it’s okay, not your fault doll. We’ll reschedule after maybe? That sound good?” He gave you a cheeky smile that you loved. Before any of this, you had been friends and he was a gem of a friend. Loyal, true and charismatic. You nodded a genuine smile up at him and suddenly hugged him, he was a good friend after all and you knew nothing would come in the way of that ever.
“Thank you.” You murmured in his chest and he kissed your forehead.
“Anytime.” He replied and left with a smile.
He knew you needed a friend at the moment and that was all he was being then, a good friend.
Tumblr media
It was two nights before your mission when Genma suddenly asked you to meet him at the bar. ‘A casual hangout’ he said. But you knew that was obviously not the case.
You had dressed in a simple attire, a top and jeans, the basic only. You had thought it over the previous nights and finally reached the conclusion, you were going to tell Genma the truth. The exact conversation hadn’t played out in your head but you knew what lines to go along.
You would even tell everyone he dumped you and it would be okay if he never wanted to speak to you again cause you didn’t deserve even his friendship for being so ruthless and downright nasty.
But how would you survive without one of your true companions?
Well that was certainly your problem now, not his. Genma was immaculately kind and genuine and you were a cold bitch.
Tumblr media
“This is clearly not working (Y/N).”
Well that wasn’t what you were expecting. You knew what he was getting at but juts so you were on the same page you dumbly asked, “What?”
He sighed and looked in your eyes, giving you a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.
“It’s getting kinda obvious. You do know I can read you quite well and I see there’s something you’re trying to hide, something that so clearly shows. I could tell you were moving on, well trying to at least. You gave your heart to him when we were just kids, while I gave mine to you. Funny how fate works?”
Neither of you laughed.
“But I guess this is some sort of karma. And it’s going to hurt me for a bit of time. But I’ll be okay. I can’t see you like anymore though. I really hope he appreciates all the love you have for him. And comes around soon. But stay in my life nevertheless.”
You didn’t realise when you started crying, but your face had heated up and you streams of tears tried to cool it down.
With a shaking sob, you replied, “I don’t deserve you Genma. But I Know you’ll find  another and be just fine. For your sake, I really hope you do. And Thank you.” You wrapped your arms around him while tears landed on both your shoulders.
It must have been so incredibly hard for him to do this yet he never failed to amaze you. You were proud to be a part of his life. You tilted back and looked in his glazed eyes, stood on your toes and pressed your lips to his, one last pasting kiss. There was so much emotion in it, from both sides that you knew you’d never forget this moment ever.
Genma really knew like the back of his hand, you never even said his name but both knew who you were talking about.
Tumblr media
Kakashi always sat at the back of the bar, where he could drink his beer without the prying eyes of others trying to see his face. He rarely drank, lest he was with his friends but his heart was aching right now. He had messed up his mission yesterday because he couldn’t think straight after he saw (Y/N) looking as gorgeous as ever With her sleek (f/c) dress and cherry red lips. He might have drooled, he did actually, but gained his senses when he saw Genma accompanying her. He quickly hid, masking his chakra and looked at the happy couple. It was his fault, if anything for never acting on his feelings.
What good are your worldwide achievements if you don’t have a family to share them with?
Both his parents were taken away from him at a very young age and he had no relatives. Studying too hard, over exerting himself and being bratty became his coping mechanisms. Since his early childhood, Kakashi was very independent and self-confident, at times even appearing arrogant and condescending. Despite that, Kakashi was very perceptive and intuitive, quickly realising the situation for what it was. After his father's death, Kakashi became more stern, aloof and cold toward others, dating was never something he considered important, it didn’t even cross his mind. The only people he ever let into his life were a handful of classmates like Gai, Asuma, maybe even Kurenai to some extent but romance was out of his story, At least he thought it was.
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low Only hate the road when you're missing home Only know you love her when you let her go And you let her go
He first realised his love at some festival being celebrated in Konoha, when his bored eyes saw you all dressed up, beside your group of friends. You were laughing so wholeheartedly that even tears pooled there. He was thankful for whatever had you wheezing so hard. Sure, he always thought you were attractive, he knew how to appreciate beauty, but for some reason that laugh created a domestic picture in his head and he knew wouldn’t mind listening to it again.
That night he thought about you, like really thought about you. Reminiscing about every encounter you both had ever had, and he fell harder for you the same night. He remembered how you approached him after his father’s passing, the only person whose eyes held true sadness apart from his real friends’ circle.
He knew a lot of his admirers left him gifts at his house, expensive chocolates, cards, bouquets but he knew their intentions were never genuine. But he also remembered that among the lot, were homemade cookies and chocolates. They never had a name but he connected the dots when he found out your distant aunt had some sort of bakery. It was conformed when he saw you travelling through Konoha with several baskets in your hands, Your teen self trying to figure the addresses. He might or not have followed you. Some were your aunt’s deliveries while you brought some of them to your friends’ house and one last basket which you left at his doorstep.
You never approached him after to take credit, or with some other purpose. You didn’t even contact him in academy the next day.
He found himself wishing way too often that you did.
As much of a genius as Kakashi was, it took him way too much time, more than he’d like to admit, several years exactly, to realise the extent of his feelings. It happened when you started to date someone. It never crossed his mind why you never dated before but he wished it could go back to that. He caught you with your date kissing in a park and he swore he heard his heart break. Like really, really break. Then the intellectual finally figured out his Love.
And he knew he screwed up.
You see her when you close your eyes Maybe one day you'll understand why Everything you touch surely dies.
After that realization, you plagued his thoughts. He thought he would confess if your relationship ended but he was a coward. And he hated himself for it. He knew how shit his reason of losing you if he confessed was, but it was effective. The amount of close people he had lost just amplified his fear. He couldn’t afford to lose you, even if it pained his heart to admire you just from afar.
He was an exceptional ninja and his alert senses identifies your chakra as soon as you entered. Even in casual clothes, you were the prettiest thing he had ever laid eyes on. His gaze followed your short walk to the bar countertop where he found Genma and his mood turned sour. He was once again reminded of all he couldn’t have.
He observed the couple from a few feet behind his crush, and he saw you both hug suddenly. His heart broke all over again when he saw a tear roll down Genma’s cheek and you pulling Genma in a hot, steamy kiss. Though you both weren’t aware, you made quite a scene in the bar and everyone was gazing right at you both. Kakashi quickly paid for his tab and ran out, breathing heavily.
What if Genma proposed? That was a bizarre thought because he knew you’ve been dating for just over a month but Kakashi didn’t know how relationships progressed. That night found him lying awake in his bed and he came to a conclusion.
That he’d be damned if he let you get away without even trying.
Tumblr media
A/N: Thanks for making it till the end. I hoped you liked it. Requests are open and if you don’t have any prompt, just comment which character you’d like to see more of and I’ll consider requests of that character. Please reblog and like. I’ll love you if you do.
Until next time.

Merlin and Naruto
I did Merlin here, so here’s Naruto! :D
[disclaimer for everyone: I have only watched up through Season 10 of Shippuden (the arc with the Five Kage Summit), and I am trying to avoid spoilers for everything after that point, so please don’t interact with this (including tags, because tumblr shows them to me automatically) unless you are avoiding ALL spoilers. For me, this includes discussion about whether you like/dislike future seasons, comparisons of various seasons in terms of quality, etc.  Thanks, everyone! <3]
My favorite parent-child relationship: I know they’re not blood-related, but Iruka and Naruto have me crying every time I see them together.  Naruto straight-up says that when he’s with Iruka he feels like he knows what it’s like to have a father, and honestly, Iruka loves Naruto so much at this point that he would insta-adopt him if Naruto asked.  I love how Naruto always cites Iruka as the first person who cared for him even later in the show when Iruka hasn’t had as much screentime, and when I saw Iruka cry because he’s so proud of Naruto at the end of the Pain arc, it was just...too much for my little heart to handle.
My favorite sibling relationship: You know, thinking about it, almost all of the people in Naruto are only children, as far as we know!  But in terms of just that sibling vibe - Sakura and Naruto definitely give me that feel.  I know he has a crush on her, but their relationship has always felt more sibling-like to me, and I especially love how deep their bond has become by the time we get to Shippuden.  They are just so comfortable with each other now - the depth of the love and friendship they feel for each other is palpable.
My favorite family relationship (other): I adore Naruto’s relationship with Jiraiya.  That scene where Naruto falls asleep against his back almost killed me, and Jiraiya’s later line, “Your smile is my salvation” - that was too much.  It absolutely destroyed me.  The way Jiraiya kind of gave up on everything after his old life went to hell - neverending wars, Orochimaru gone, his original students dead, his student’s students dead, Minato dead - he just ran away after that, and it was meeting Naruto that kind of rekindled that spark of hope in him and helped him reconnect with his community and rediscover a sense of purpose in his life.  Naruto enabled him to finally come home, and I think that’s beautiful.
My favorite friendship between two people: There are so many friendships in Naruto that I love (one of the greatest things about this show for me has been how little focus is given to romantic relationships, at least so far; it’s very much a friendship-oriented show), but right now I’m in a bit of a Kakashi-Yamato hole.  I was super primed to not like Yamato when he first showed up, because him being there meant that my favorite character WASN’T there, and also he ended up replacing Kakashi on the one mission where the team finally found Sasuke, but the guy won me over in the end.  He is one of my favorite characters now - my heart just swells every time I see him - and I think his relationship with Kakashi is super interesting.  I’ve written before about how Kakashi’s only truly intimate friendships are with people who are dead, and I do think that applies when it comes to Yamato, too, even though the two of them are obviously very companionable and close.  There is still a level to that relationship where Kakashi is a bit of a mentor figure, the “superior officer,” which results in a degree of (still friendly and affectionate) distance.  And as with all of his other relationships, Kakashi doesn’t really confide in Yamato about his life or open up to him in the same way that he does when he talks to his dead friends - but at the same time, there is an element to their relationship that doesn’t exist in Kakashi’s other friendships, and it’s the fact that Kakashi trusts Yamato with his kids, implicitly and without reservation.  Kakashi’s entire life right now is very much enmeshed in what happens to his students, and even if he doesn’t necessarily talk about that with Yamato, Yamato is still deeply involved in that work.  Yamato VOLUNTEERED for that work.  And he continues to dedicate himself to it even when his first mission as Kakashi’s stand-in ends up going completely off the rails and turning into WAY more than he signed up for.  He keeps doing his utmost for Kakashi’s kids without it even being his original responsibility, and that is such an unusual thing, for Kakashi, who in every other circumstance is always the one stepping in to help other people, the one who always shoulders his burdens alone.  Nobody ever asks Kakashi if he needs help with these incredibly high-needs children, and neither does Yamato - but the difference is that Yamato jumps in to help regardless, and he stays no matter how complicated things get.  That’s huge, and it’s only going to become more important.  It’s just - it is difficult for Kakashi to have intimate friendships with people who don’t share his history, and this rules out almost everybody else in the world, because all the people who truly share his own history are dead.  But the degree to which Yamato has altruistically and irreversibly entwined himself into the most important parts of Kakashi’s new history - the chapters being written right now, the ones that are going to define the rest of Kakashi’s life - means that Yamato is well on his way to breaking through that wall and becoming the first exception to a universal rule. [There is a lot to be said on Kakashi’s side of this, too, like - every time Kakashi refuses to call Yamato by his code name I lose my mind just a little bit, and I have MANY thoughts about Kakashi basically dragging folks who’ve been victimized or exploited or experimented on out of ANBU and then absorbing them into his own team, where they become a part of a family-type unit that respects them and cares about them and treats them like human beings.  I mean, there’s a huge difference between the Yamato we meet in S2 vs. the Yamato we know in S10 (and the same thing goes for Sai!) - and that’s something I think about a lot.]
My favorite friendship between a group:  I love all of the team dynamics, but Team Gai is a fave XD  The absurd contrast between oh-so-serious Neji vs. Gai/Lee’s incredible goofiness (with Tenten’s exasperation in between) is comedy gold.  I screamed with laughter in S1 when Gai was trying to get Neji to put his hand in the circle and do their “shout a slogan like a sports team” thing - I’ve never seen anything funnier on this show than jonin!Neji trying to put up with Gai’s antics.
My favorite mentorship: My favorite mentorship is always Kakashi and whichever kid happens be onscreen with him at that moment, but I’ll be honest and say that Kakashi+Sasuke was the first dynamic that got me actually invested in this show (as opposed to me just watching it because it was on and not really caring what happened to any of the characters).  They are still the mentorship dynamic about which I have the most complex feelings, and that is especially true after the last season we watched.  I will probably end up making a separate post about this, because I still have not written down all of my thoughts about the end of Season 10 and I am still trapped in my feelings about this very lost child and the only adult who ever tried to help him the way he deserved to be helped, and I know I have way more to say about them than I can reasonably fit in this bullet point.  But - the short version is that I am super compelled by the way that every tragedy that’s befallen Kakashi is precisely what shapes him into the only adult who can help this particular kid, the way seemingly senseless events ended up putting Kakashi in a position where he’s the only adult who can intervene on this kid’s behalf many, many years later.  The way Sasuke’s plight (and the potential that Kakashi has to help him) suddenly grants meaning to the worst parts of Kakashi’s life - that knocks me on my butt.
My favorite rivalry: So I probably would not have said this until the episode where Kakashi comes three seconds away from being made Hokage, but I’m gonna say Gai & Kakashi, solely to express my love and appreciation for Gai in that episode.  This is the ep where Gai challenges Kakashi to a race through the entire village (as a sort of “last hurrah before we can’t do this kind of silly shit anymore” thing) and Kakashi is initially kind of reluctant to do it, because he’s stressed out about a lot of things, but he does end up agreeing to it, and then he has SO much fun, and I LOVED this so much; I can’t even tell you.  This moment takes place immediately after Kakashi returns from that horrible, awful confrontation with Sasuke, and everything preceding this scene was very hard for me to see, because everybody is just asking Kakashi to do more and more and more for them without giving him even a hot minute to be like “i almost just killed my own kid.  i almost just had to kill my own kid, who was trying to kill my other kid, who was trying to kill kid #1 first, so i wouldn’t have assume the burden of killing him myself.”  Nobody checks on him, nobody asks, and Kakashi has to just hold onto that horror and also fret over the uncertain yet chilling secrets that Madara Uchiha disclosed and also prepare to shoulder the crushing weight of an office he never asked for - AND THEN.  GAI SHOWS UP.  And even though Gai doesn’t really know what happened, he still checks Kakashi over from top to bottom to make sure he’s in one piece, and then he drags him into this stupid competition, and it makes Kakashi LAUGH.  They go running all out across the craterized scene of devastation that used to be their home, and they have FUN doing it, and Kakashi straight-up tells Gai, “This was just what I needed,” which - god.  It would be great if Kakashi had somebody he could actually talk to, sure, but there’s also a space in our lives for people who just cheer us up, no questions asked.  It’s like when you tell someone you have a problem and they ask, “Do you want to talk about it or do you want to be distracted?”  Sometimes you don’t need to talk about it.  Sometimes you just need people who will take you for a goofy footrace and make you feel like you’re running too fast for any of your troubles to ever touch you again, for a few minutes.
My favorite hatred/antipathy: The answer to this question used to be Kakashi and Itachi, and while I’m even MORE fascinated by their dynamic now than ever, it’s taken on a whole new dimension, given that I think Itachi is (secretly) thrilled to see someone like Kakashi so committed to taking him down and keeping Sasuke safe.  So, in place of that, I’ll just say that I love how much all of the Akatsuki cannot stand each other XD  Almost none of them get along, and it makes me laugh every time - I can’t believe they ever get anything done, though I guess that’s to be expected when you get that many super-criminals together in a room.  I especially love how they all think Orochimaru is so stupid...cannot get over them laughing at him and his body-snatching immortality schemes.
My favorite potential relationship between characters who never talk in canon: Okay, these are both silly answers, but - I would have KILLED to see Jiraiya interacting with Minato’s team.  Like, I’m certain they spent time together, but honestly, what I wouldn’t give to have witnessed some of it.  All I could think about during that mini-arc where Jiraiya teaches Naruto how to sync up with Gamariki was how little!Kakashi would have taken one look at the dancing frogs and decided he would be using dog!summons for the rest of his life; meanwhile Obito would have already been in the frog’s mouth begging to be launched into the air like a cannonball.  Also - my sister said the other night how it is a CRIME that we never got to see Sasuke forced to interact with Jiraiya and honestly, that is too true.

Fond Memories
Hatake Kakashi (No Ship)
1563 Words
For: @caffeinatedshinobi
Spending his night out with friends was a rare occurrence, one that was meant to be treasured and remembered fondly on a bad day, or during the last precious moments of life.
Instead, Kakashi was trying to get drunk, and fast.
“Whoa slow down,” Gai’s hand came down over his glass, preventing him from shooting back his third cup of sake. “What is the rush, Rival? We’re supposed to be relaxing.”
“I don’t think ‘relaxing’ is a word that exists in Kakashi’s vocabulary,” Glaring over at Asuma, he huffs when his friend simply responds with a playful smile. “You know it’s true. Your idea of ‘relaxing’ is reading that book of yours.”
“That is relaxing for me,” He grumbled, though it was sort of a lie. Most days he just read his book because it was easy to do. It didn’t involve a lot of energy, no emotional investment since he knew what was going to happen, and it kept his mind occupied. “Fine, let’s do something ‘relaxing’ then. What’s relaxing?”
He looks to Kurenai for an answer. There’s no way he trusts whatever idea comes out of Asuma’s mouth, and he’s pretty sure Gai doesn’t know the meaning of the word ‘relaxing’. The only time he relaxes at all is when he has a stick of dango in his hand.
Taking the hint, Kurenai leaned back in her chair and took a moment to think about the request. After a few minutes a small smile started to pull at the corner of her lips, meaning she had come up with an idea.
“Let’s share memories,” she leaned forward, her smile so big it could almost rival Gai’s regular toothy grin. “Talk about our favorite memory with our team. How about it?”
That didn’t sound nearly as exciting as she made it seem.
“Does anyone even have a favorite memory?” He asked, relaxing into his chair and watching as everyone turned to look at him. “What?”
“Surely you have a favorite memory of the time you have spent with your team, Rival,” There’s a worried look on Gai’s face.”A time when you looked at your students and couldn’t help but smile, or feel like everything was perfect for just a few minutes.”
Bold of Gai to assume he liked his students.
“Even if you aren't particularly fond of your students,” Good old reliable Asuma. He always seemed to know what was on Kakashi’s mind in moments like this, and he held no judgement unlike a certain Taijutsu expert currently gasping in disbelief. “There must be one moment where you looked at them and thought ‘huh, they’re not so bad’”
Not so bad?
That was possible, though he’d have to think about it to remember such a scenario since most of his memories with Team Seven involved endless headaches. Naruto being a constant pain in his ass, Sasuke being...well, Sasuke. Sakura was in there somewhere too but she didn’t stick out as much.
It was a downfall of not being a complete monster, but he appreciated that there was at least one normal person on his team. It was also a result of being the smartest out of the three, so he didn’t have to worry so much about her doing incredibly stupid shit.
He’d have to think really hard to come up with a fond memory that didn’t involve contemplated murder.
“Oh no, he’s making the thinking face.” Asuma’s voice cut through his thoughts, followed by Kurenai’s laughter and the distant sound of Gai asking him if he was alright.
He ignored it all, determined to find just one fond memory with his team of gremlins.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ichiraku Ramen
Not his favorite place to eat out at, but these days it was the one he saw the inside of the most. All thanks to one orange clad genin currently in the middle of screaming about how he’s going to be Hokage one day.
Quite the dream to have, for a kid who can’t keep his trap shut on a mission.
“You don’t believe me?” Taking his chopsticks, Naruto poked Sasuke in the nose. “It’s true. I’m going to be Hokage and i’m going to prove to the whole village that i’m the strongest there is.”
“You might want to focus on learning how to throw a kunai properly first,” Sasuke swatted the chopsticks away from his face. “besides, what are you going to even do as Hokage? Make it a law that everyone has to eat at Ichiraku Ramen every day?”
He didn’t need to hear Naruto’s enthusiastic ‘yes’ to feel sick to his stomach. He was already eating more Ramen than he could handle. How Naruto survived on the stuff every day was beyond him.
“I think the most important thing you’re forgetting here is that a Hokage should be a good leader,” Sakura spoke up. “How can you be a good leader when you can’t even get along with your own teammates?”
Point for Sakura, again.
So far she was winning in his ‘who gets to be my favorite’ competition.
Not that it was hard with teammates like hers.
“I can learn,” Naruto protested. “Besides, we have the best Sensei out of all of them! We’ll be the strongest in the village, all three of us.”
He can’t tell if Naruto is just being nice, or if he actually believed what he’s saying. If it’s the second one he has to question Naruto’s logic in calling HIM the best sensei in the village.
That title clearly went to Gai, but it might help that his students were less determined to put him in an early grave.
and that he had actually wanted to be a Sensei, unlike Kakashi.
“You’re not wrong there,” Sakura beamed. “Kakashi-Sensei’s far from perfect…” rude. “but he’s an amazing Sensei. Don’t you agree Sasuke-kun?”
Ok, he could forgive the rudeness for that one.
Turning his eyes towards Sasuke, he waited for a response to Sakura’s question. A smile pulled at his lips when he saw the Uchiha glaring over at him.
“He’s not terrible,” Sasuke admitted in a hushed tone. “I’ve learned from worse.”
It wasn’t the best compliment, but he was willing to take it.
“Hey, Sensei,” Naruto nudged him in the side. “You like teaching us, right? Showing us how to be the best shinobi in the village.”
How had he ended up with Minato-sensei 2.0 staring up at him with bright blue eyes and a smile that could melt any heart
Well, any heart that wasn’t his.
His heart and soul thrived off of being the guy that showed affection through insults and jabs. Probably not the best trait to have when one is a Jonin-sensei.
“Of course i like teaching you,” he turned his attention to the bowl of still untouched Ramen sitting in front of him. “There’s no other students dumb enough to get hit with the ‘thousand years of death’ twice.”
No, he was not going to let Naruto live it down after he had successfully used his father’s goofy old attack on the kid again during training today.
“S-sensei…” Naruto’s head hit the counter, his voice full of shame and defeat.
Good.
He was getting too comfortable. Too chummy.
“Best Sensei maybe,” Sasuke grumbled beside them “biggest ass hole for sure.”
Well, at least they were starting to understand him. They couldn’t fully appreciate his personality if they thought he was just socially awkward. They needed to accept that their sensei was a bully just as much as they were.
It’s what made them all a perfect team, even if he did want to murder them all most days.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Smiling to himself, Kakashi turned his attention back over to Kurenai, who began to look very concerned as soon as he did.
“D-is everything ok?” She asked cautiously. “Did you come out of your thoughts in one piece.”
His friends were just as much ass holes as he was, and he loved them for it.
“I thought of a fond memory,” he informed her, laughing to himself as he thought back to it once again. “I guess i do have one of those.”
Gai’s hand came down on his shoulder hard, shoving him forward suddenly and forcing him to reach out and grab hold of the table for support.
“That’s great, Rival!” Gai’s voice boomed in his ear. “Tell us! What is this fond memory of your team you found?”
“Mmmm, i don’t think I will,” there’s a sense of pride that bubbles up inside of him when all three of his friends slam their hands down on the table in protest. “It’s my memory to enjoy all on my own.”
“You can’t just…” Asuma’s words devolve into a string of nonsense while Gai starts screaming about ‘youthful passion’ and ‘rivalry’. Meanwhile, Kurenai just leans back into her chair with a groan and closes her eyes, clearly done with the entire situation.
This.
This was relaxing for him.
Annoying all of his friends with little to no effort and watching them react with a variety of different emotions.
This is why he hung out with them.
Because they made his life interesting, and they never got so used to his trolling horrible ways (As Asuma liked to refer to it) that they stopped reacting.
This is what he loved about these three and he never wanted it to change.

Ok, but listen, hufflepuff kakashi and slytherin gai. Kakashi is incredibly honest and loves his friends and gai has an ambitious nature, all those challenges, trying to be better, constantly setting new goals, trying to beat kakashi.
Kakashi feels so out of place in hufflepuff at firdt cuz EVERYONE wants to be friends and he's overwhelmed and trying to find a nice quiet place to hide. He honestly does not understand how he got placed in hufflepuff, amd other hufflepuffs are a little confussed about it too.
Gai is very in your face. He hears all aboht the smart prodige 'Kakashi Hatake' and immidiatly decides this will be his rival. That he'll use this other kid to help push himself to become the best wizard at hogwarts. The sorting hat doesn't even touch his head before calling out slytherin. He's radiating ambition.
The first few times Gai tries to challenge Kakasho, kakashi is very withdrawn and tries to get away. He wants nothing to do with this at all.
Unfortunatly, Gai doesn't give up so Kakashi ends up saying yes to a challenge, which does not end well for Gai. Kakashi absolutly destroys him.
It's ok though cuz Gai knew this would be hard and he's not aboht to give up, so he challenges Kakashi again.
Kakashi's still pretty adverse to the challenges, but for some reason he finds himself liking Gai's company so he keeps saying yes.
It takes him about half of their first year to realize that Gai is his friend. that he loves hanging out with Gai and spending time with him, even for none challenge like things.
As soon as that's realized, the hufflepuff in Kakashi becomes evident. He spends as much time as possible with Gai, he refuses to leave Gai's side when possible, nd he is fiercly loyal. This is his best friend and he will not have anyone question that fact.
Gai helps Kakashi make more friends of course, amd as he does they both realize why Kakashi was put into hufflepuff. He may not be open and welcoming to having a LOT of friends, but the friends he does have are important to him. He would do anything for them and he will absolutly fight for them. He's the tiny angry protective hufflepuff willing to start a fight while Gai stands behind him and just shakes his head before picking him up and walking away.
Gai's ambition neber dies down. Even as his grades start to improve and he closes that huge gao between him and Kakashi, he still asks for competitions and he still strives to be better amd better.
Flying class os their favorite to show off just how good both of them are. Kakashi is the first person to be able to call his broom up no problem (1 try) and as soom as Gai see's it he stamps down any fears he might have and follows suit. This goes on for all of their flying classes until by the end of their 1st year they're both busing around the castle grounds no problem.
This leads to their second year and both of them trying out for their house teams. Kakashi of course gets on as seeker, but Gai gets on as chaser. He doesn't take that as a bad thing though. Kakashi has always had an attention span more suited for a seeker, and he can always try and get slytherin more points with goals before Kakashi catches the snitch.
Kakashi is absolutly known to jinx anyone who insults Gai or any of his other friends. Of course, no one can PROVE it's Kakashi cuz he's a sneaky lil shit, but they know. They friggen know.

Mmm Minato...Yamato...Shizune
Under a cut for length!
Minato
send me a character and i’ll list:
favorite thing about them:
He has such a good heart and is so kind, I love the way he reached out to and loved Kushina, and Kakashi, and Obito, and Rin. He really is just an amazing person, and he was put into incredibly difficult situations that he wasn’t prepared to handle, but he always thought with his heart in the right place at the end of the day. And he’s so adorable with such a loveable personality, the way he names his moves and interacts with the kids forms such a fun contrast to how capable he can be on the battlefield.
Minato loves with all his heart and he’s goofy and sweet, and he has relatively high emotional intelligence.
least favorite thing about them:
His decision to put Kakashi in ANBU really wasn’t wise. I know he only did it to keep Kakashi close to him and he made the offer with Kakashi’s personality in mind, since Kakashi would more easily accept the offer to stay near Minato if it was a duty instead of something openly framed as Minato wanted to take care of him, but it led to some bad stuff down the line.
favorite line
“Because I know that you’re strong, in body and in spirit. But this is a fight between two villages. It’s different from other fights, so… I didn’t want to lose you.”

People often don’t believe he’s the real Yellow Flash at first, because he looks so young.
unpopular opinion
He wasn’t quite ready to be a teacher, especially not to a team consisting of Kakashi, Obito, and Rin, and especially not during wartime. All things considered, he did well with them, and he made the kids genuinely love and admire him, but a lot of the mistakes came from inexperience.

Yamato
send me a character and i’ll list:
favorite thing about them:
He is so earnest and devoted. He admires Kakashi soo much, and he’s an excellent mentor to Sai and Naruto and Sakura. Despite knowing how to rule by fear and kill his emotions, Yamato is a very caring guardian and a good role model for Naruto.
Yamato’s been through so much, he’s had his life torn apart and build back up, and it’s a testiment to his strength that he can still be strong when he needs to be. When he singlehandedly rebuilt all those houses or when he saved Sakura from falling off the bridge or when he helped Gai after he was in pain from opening the gates… Yamato’s just so cute and good and after the life he’s lived, he deserves those soft moments of true companionship.
When Yamato is surrounded by everyone and feels like he’s found a home and found exactly where he belongs in his Infinite Tsukiyomi, it’s just so clear how much he values others.
least favorite thing about them:
I can’t believe they just shoved him offscreen for, like, the entire war
Actually I have beef with the whole narrative joke of forgetting that Yamato exists. It cuts him out in the same way it cuts out Shino.

Yamato still regularly meets up with Yukimi to check up on her. She’s having a blast exploring the worldm and she’s always happy to get the chance to drag Yamato along on another adventure with her. Whether they’re related by blood or not, Yamato and Yukimi genuinely see each other as the last “family” they each have left.

Shizune
send me a character and i’ll list:
favorite thing about them:
Shizune is such a badass. She basically runs the village while Tsunade is Hokage, she keeps so much paperwork in order, she is amicable and capable and she truly, truly loved and admires Tsunade! It’s sweet! And she’s such an important presence in Tsunade’s life, just as Tsunade is an important presence in her own. When Shizune was reminding Tsunade what was important to them so she wouldn’t give in and trust Orochimaru and Kabuto, when Shizune cried and hugged Tsunade because she was just so happy that she was still alive… I love the mother-daughter bond between them!
I love her when she fights too, her abilities with poison and her skill with medical ninjutsu are incredible.
Plus, how much she loves Tonton and her oversized sleeves! She’s so adorable! I love Shizune a lot!
least favorite thing about them:
I feel bad that there was a lot Shizune wasn’t able to do, despite being Tsunade’s first apprentice.
favorite line
"Are the wishes of two people more… Tsunade!! Your dreams… your wishes… Have you forgotten them?”

random headcanon
Growing up, Shizune had a huge crush on Kurenai.
unpopular opinion
She should have been the next Hokage, not Kakashi. Shizune knows how to run the village and is Tsunade’s successor, and Shizune would have poisoned the elders the second they raised their voice at her! Shizune for rokudaime!

Character Solidifying: Odd numbers 19 - 39
good god,
19. What were your character’s deepest disillusions? In life? What are they now?
i mean he used to be brainwashed so that’s a pretty big one. he used to believe that the village was to be protected no matter the cost of life or the depravity of the acts he must commit, and he believed that following orders was all there was to life, but he got better :^) proud of him. discovering danzo was a steaming pile of garbage was a real journey and it hurt, tbh, and now he feels like he has Things to make up for, but who doesn’t.
thanks to things like The Power Of Friendship, he’s now under the impression that the village is nothing without the relationships within it, and he realizes the importance of the lives of the people protecting and living in it, blah blah, other gay shit
i wouldn’t say he’s currently disillusioned with his relationship with team kakashi, but he definitely feels replaceable to at least 3/4 of them. he thinks he’s fine with feeling that way, but he isn’t.
21. What are your character’s manners like? What is their type of hero? Whom do they hate?
Easy!
manners: bad / hero: naruto / hates: people that fuck with his friends
a lil bit of elaboration:
manners: he pretty much functions well enough to pass as normal, if a little uncomfortable, in most social situations. sometimes he deliberately acts like he doesn’t understand a social norm specifically to rile up his friends.
hero: he’s never really had a concept of a hero before he joined team kakashi. yes, he admires the likes of the captains, what with their strength and infamy and how cool they are, but to him a hero is someone like naruto: some dipshit that suffered as a child and still works his ass off to see the good in people and try to lift them out of the darkness, no matter how many times he gets hurt. sai genuinely admires that, and also admits maybe his standards for heroics are a little high.
that last bit probably doesn’t need an explanation, really, but. if u hurt someone he cares about, he’ll ruin your life. one way or another.
23. What do they want from a partner? What do they think and feel of sex?
generally sai.... just wants to have fun. he’s really out here for a good time, not a long time. he wants to feel good, but what he really wants is to make his partner feel good because that’s the shit he likes.
his feelings on sex in order of importance to him: 1) useful and 2) fun for the most part
25. What are their hobbies and interests?
obviously he enjoys art, but he also likes writing and people watching. he thinks people are incredible and fascinating, so sometimes he just goes and talks to strangers and learns as much as he can about them, and writes down as much as he can remember (which is usually all of it barring outstanding circumstances) later. literally has a whole shelf dedicated to people and their life’s stories, or someone else’s life story through their eyes. usually he gets these from older people but sometimes the youths overshare as well.
there were like six months where he tried to learn how to make music and/or sing, but he was only mediocre at it and thus did not last long
outside of this, he genuinely enjoys exercising and training tbh. picking up new hand-to-hand styles counts as a hobby, right? since he’s a ninjutsu specialist? sakura why are you sighing at me?
27. How do they relate to their appearance? How do they wear their clothing? Style? Quality?
sai is aware that he’s what most people would consider striking at the least, if not full-blown good looking. in a mission-setting he’s very good at working this to his advantage, but in day-to-day life it’s kind of... rough, starting out. he’s never had to pick out his own clothes, u kno, always had a uniform, so he generally just wears that until his friends start gifting him soft tee shirts and shorts and other like.... normal clothing items for functional adult humans to wear.
eventually he starts going out and buying his own shit, u kno, and generally it makes him feel silly to buy anything that isn’t functional, durable, well-fitted and dark-colored. any outrageous/silly clothing he owns would have to be a gift, no matter how much he fucking loves wearing stupid novelty tees cut into a crop top.
29. What is your character’s weaknesses? Hubris? Pride? Controlling?
his biggest weakness is his bitchy personality lol,,, he self-sabotages his closest relationships by bickering all the fucking time and Seriously offending people and then has the fuckin audacity to blame the fact that he’s gonna die alone on the idea that he was just a temporary replacement. instead of, u kno, taking some time to self-reflect and realize not everything has to be a fucking battle all the time.
sai also, and i cannot say this enough, does not have the good sense god gives all the small children. 90% of this is attributed to the fact that he was conditioned to have very little self preservation instinct outside of “survive to complete the mission” as a child, which unfortunately does not lend to good real-world decision making, but 10% of that is that he’s just genuinely fucking dumb. he has 0 people sense starting out and has to learn a majority of his lessons the hard way.
31. Does your character have children? How do they feel about their parental role? About the children? How do the children relate?
no kids. he personally believes he would be a terrible father if he ever lived that long, even though that’s probably not true. other peoples’ kids he likes well enough, and they seem to think he’s Neat(TM), but he’s deathly afraid of making a small child cry and thus tries to avoid them for the most part.
33. Do they drink? Take drugs? What about their health?
HA, HA HA, HA,
drinking yes and drugs.... sometimes, if he’s really having a rough week and is unable to find a better outlet for Feelings and Thoughts. because he’s obviously not going to talk about things. generally though he prefers to go out and have anonymous sex and never call them again. if he’s gonna take a drug though it’s usually an upper
as far as his health goes.... physically he’s alright, his body holds up pretty well under all the stress he puts himself through physically. mentally and emotionally he’s basically a minefield except instead of blowing up he just :| and stews in it
35. Do they always rationalize errors? How do they accept disasters and failures?
sai is a perfectionist and will take any failure, perceived or real, extremely personally. if he fucks up, he can usually handle anger just fine, but having someone disappointed in him makes him want to crawl out of his skin, under his bed, and die.
37. How is your character’s imagination? Daydreaming a lot? Worried most of the time? Living in memories?
the extent of his imagination generally applies to difficult conversations he rehearses between himself and others before actually having them and immediately being completely wrong about they would react to whatever he’s saying.
that being said, he is an extremely creative problem solver and detective, and genuinely enjoys solving puzzles and problems. to him, doing shit like recreating a crime scene or a scenario based on evidence is a little bit like drawing from memory :^)
39. What do they like to ridicule? What do they find stupid?
hand to god i cant think of something. he likes teasing his friends but that isn’t genuine ridicule. mostly he minds his own fuckin business u know?
i guess if he were so inclined to confront someone about their stupidity, it would be about treating someone like shit. yes, it’s rich coming from him, and no, he don’t appreciate you pointing that out.

what are your favourite kakashi moments that made you love him as a character?
Ohhh I have so many.
From Og Naruto.
When Naruto whinned about doing another 'boring mission' and asked if they were going to chase cats again, and Kakashi just responded with a 'purrhaps'.
His whole talk about the importance of teamwork and protecting your teammates. His beliefs are made clear from day one and it's very friend oriented which i love.
How he showed respect to Zabuza, the man he'd been fighting just minutes before.
When he talks to Naruto about rivals and looks at Gai. after playing the 'cool guy' and continuing to bother Gai by asking him what he'd said it was really cool to see that he clearly felt the same way about their rivalry as Gai did.
Saving Sakura in the Konoha Crush. no hesitation, man cut two shinobi down in an instant to protect his daughter student
Walking away from Tsunade while she was trying to give him a new mission and heading out to find his students instead.
Fighting back to back with Gai in the konoha crush arc. Up to this point Kakashi has been a protector. the one guarding his students and fighting alone. To see him fighting back to back with someone, thus protecting them while allowing them to protect him, was really cool and showed how deep their bond is.
when he told Iruka that Naruto was working to be a shinobi like him. He was being so sweet and cheerful, and i love how he reminds Iruka just how much Naruto looks up to him.
Knowing how to open the first gate. It's pretty clear Kakashi has rather negative feelings about the gates when he finds out Gai taught them to Lee, but here he is using the first gate because he can at least appreciate its use (but still sticks to using only the gate that doesn't cause any significant negative effects to his body)
Shippuden
How he just talks to Lady Chiyo when they're on their way to locate Sasori and Deidara. Dude has no reason really to be nice to her considering the welcome he got from her, but when she asked about Naruto's drive to save Gaara Kakashi did not hold back on telling her about his student. (In general just how he treats everyone around him with kindness, even his enemies)
Getting frustrated with Naruto not listening to him and physiclly having to grab him and pull him back in their fight against Deidara because he needs Naruto to work WITH him, not against him because he's allowing his anger to get to him. big mood my dude.
How he spent his time stuck in the hospital thinking about how to improve the team, and ultimately accepted that the only person he could really help improve at the ridiculous rate they needed was Naruto. If he could have found a way to improve his own skills at that incredable pace i have no doubt he would have gone with that idea, but he accepted that it was time for him to help Naruto surpass him.
How he stepped in without hesitation to save Team Gai when Deidra decided to blow himself up in hopes of taking them down with him
how he does the same thing for Iruka, putting himself into a battle against Pein he has next to no chance of winning so he can give others an opportuity to escape to safety.
His cute challenges with Gai. I just love how he actually lets himself relax and goes full dork mode around Gai <3
how he smiles at Sai and tells him that he belives in him
"Sensei is sorry" it's so stupid but cute and I love how he obviously recognizes he needs to explain things a bit slower for Naruto.
Bullying tenzo. One is not a true friend if you cannot bully each other XD
Stopping lightning with his hands to protect Team Seven from Kakuzu's attack
Being such a sneaky shit that he's able to take out Kakuzu's first heart before his presence is even known.
the entire hidan and Kakuzu vs Kakashi fight tbh. I love how he's just jumping around dodging Hidan like it's not big deal XD
his background! The loss of his father, Obito's death, Rin's death, Minato's death. This man really watched as people around him dropped like flies and still refused to stop believing in other people.
And so so so much more. I love a lot of what he does and who he is. He's a facinating character

Pfft, sorry if this is out of left field, but I find it very funny if Kakashi almost has a double life once he becomes a god again in GOS.
Like on the one hand, he's still the kind, helpful son and Gai's husband. I imagine he had to have a talk separately with both sets. Like his parents were worried maybe they did something wrong when raising him and may not have been good enough to be Parents for a god. Kakashi having to assure them that had he looked a thousand years, and inspected every single couple that existed in that time and got to personally pick who would be his human parents...he could never have done better than these two people before him. He is proud to be their son, if they still want to have him- (and he's cut off for the best parent/ child hug ever. Probably has to explain his other dad approves too and they should have a family dinner together soon. They'll love Sakumo as much as he loves them! He can have 3 parents.).
And then with Gai... just... a lot of stuff happening with his husband. Like Gai is happy Kakashi is going to save the world and be his true self. He knows this is part of Kakashi's duty and he would never stop him. It had to happen... But...he's also guilt ridden because he couldn't save his husband. He knows he had to die but... to have it happen in his arms... he didn't want to give him up yet. And as a god... can they...does Kakashi still want to make it work? are they still married? Is that allowed? Does he still love him... (I imagine Kakashi flashing his ring and simply stating "for eternity, Gai.") He also met their child and he loves them but its like...they're already an adult. He never had the opportunity to raise them. Go through any mile stones. Bond. And he's so angry with the gods and the situation even when he understands it HAD to happen and probably should have happened sooner. But its an emotion vs. Logic battle. And it's so hard to manage, come to terms with, navigate... he now knows how Kakashi feels whenever he dies (even if he doesn't know that part yet) and Kakashi also understands how it feels to be on Gai's end. To understand the importance of death and passing on even when it separates you from the one you love the most.
Its a lot for both of them... but they'll make it work.
So on the one hand Kakashi is helping his parents and husband and bonding with his new child, and saving the earth.... buuuuuut
His second life is just tormenting Kakazu for the rest of his human life. From the most incredibly petty things imaginable. To systematically ruining every facet of his life. And getting his friends and family to help him make Kakazu as MISERABLE as possible. Going full petty bitch and knowing Kakazu can do NOTHING about it.
It's so beautiful. The dichotomy of man X'D. Kakashi taking ALL his frustration on Kakazu, his own personal stress ball...
Kakashi can have a little ‘make Kakuzu’s mortal life intolerable’ as a treat 🥰🥰🥰
Also forever amused by the mental image of Kakashi stabding in front of his mortal parents in all of his glory, a storm in his left eye and the rain pouring down over them all, and just…
Telling them how much he loves them.
A god looking at these two loving mortals who raised him and cared for him for 30 years and never asked for anything in return
And wondering if it’s possible for him to give them the world, because they deserve at least that.
And Kakashi continuing to wear his wedding ring even after his mortal life has ended 😭😭😭 perhaps even having Genma do some work on a special one for Gai, and getting down on one knee to propose to him all over again
This time as a god
Someone promising his love not just for a lifetime, but for an eternity.

So I have always been in awe of your ability to portray realistic character dynamics. When you write I'm never taken out of the story by stuff I think they probably wouldn't do or say.
That beings said I totes wouldn't mind ready anything nsfw with a jealous Guy, Kakashi, or Lee x reader. Or if you hate that it's nbd, k love you byeeee
hello, anon! thank you so much for your kind words. <3
i'll be honest, i'm not sure i can envision a jealous gai! he's such a sweet and understanding person (and very well-adjusted, given his chosen profession, lol), that i think it would be incredibly difficult to make him jealous.
(although, maybe there is the potential for his partner to be frustrated as they attempt to make him jealous & he remains unbothered?)
kakashi, i think, could definitely be jealous sometimes. the deep insecurities he has as a result of losing so many important friends and family members is acute, and i think he would be sensitive to behaviors that make him feel as if his partner is leaving him behind or choosing someone else.
in fact, i believe i have two requests in my inbox with similar themes, so keep a look out for those in the future!
i don't write for lee, but, much like his idol and sensei, i'm not sure that sweet bean has a jealous bone in his body.
